The Meeks Table Fire is burning on the Naches Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
The
fire was discovered on Saturday, September 12 at approximately 3:08 pm
and was initially reported to be 15 acres in size. It is burning north
of Forest Road 1500 on the north side of the Rattlesnake Creek drainage.
The fire initially spread rapidly due to hot, dry and windy conditions.
As of 8:00 pm on Sunday September 13 it is currently estimated to be
700 to 800 acres in size.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The
Naches Ranger District has closed the entire Forest Road 1600 system
and has closed Forest Road 1500 from the eastern forest boundary to
Bethel Ridge (the junction with Road 199 Cache Prairie). All public is
asked to stay out of the fire area.
Approximately
100 firefighters are working to control the Meeks Table Fire.
Helicopter water bucket drops and Single Engine Air Tanker applications
of retardant were used today to suppress the fire and slow its spread.
