The Kaniksu Complex, which includes the Tower Fire and six smaller fires, has a total acre
26,165 acres and containment of 70 percent as of 6 p.m. Sept. 9, 2015.
Residents and visitors are reminded that parts of the Colville and Idaho Panhandle N Forests are
still closed to the public. Please check with local ranger districts for more info
Most of the work Wednesday on the Kaniksu Complex focused on repairs to containment li construction
of some indirect line on the Tower Fire. Helicopters dropped water on the wes Tower Fire as pockets
of fuels ignited due to drying conditions. Crews made significant pro connecting containment lines
in the North Baldy area of the Tower Fire. Dozers opened up crews improved trails to provide
additional containment on the east side. Crews continue to control lines and mop up hot spots in
other areas.
Crews also made progress on line construction on the Grease Fire. Dozers were used to rep
containment lines on the Onata Fire as crews patrolled handlines. Most of the repair work t
containment lines has been completed on the Baldy Fire.
As the weather becomes warmer and drier, smoke and pockets of active burning will be vis area. Fire
will continue to creep in areas of unburned vegetation inside containment lines.
Here is a roundup of fire activity:
Tower Fire: 24,296 acres, 58% containment. Located 6 miles northeast of Usk,
6 miles west of Priest Lake, Idaho. Crews continued mop up and securing of control the eastern
perimeter, crews constructed indirect lines and dozers opened up old roa for access.
Onata Creek Fire: 546 acres, 100% containment. Located 8 miles east/southeast
Wash. This fire is in patrol status.
Grease Creek Fire: 628 acres, 17% containment. Located east of Sullivan Lake. constructed
direct line on the west side of the fire.
Hall Mountain Fire: 39 acres. Located on Hall Mountain. This fire is in patrol stat
Slate Creek and South Fork Slate Creek Trail fires: 1 acre and 167 acres respe
Located near the northwest boundary of Salmo-Priest Wilderness.
Baldy Fire: 515 acres, 100% containment. Located 6 miles north of Ione, Wash. completed much
of the repair work.
Current Resources: The number of personnel on the fire is 708. Resources include: 17 cre engines, 3
helicopters, 5 dozers, 3 water tenders, 1 skidgen and a variety of fire managemen personnel at the
incident base.
