On August 2, 2014 a thunderstorm fueled by extreme
wind and rains entered the Colville Indian Reservation
causing the most damage to the NW corner of the reservation. Approximately 250 lightning strikes were
reported and the most damage occurred in the Inchelium District.
Level 1 evacuation for the Soil Poil Fires between
Bridge Creek & 30 Mile west of Hwy 21 in now in
place. Three fires located in the San Poil north of 30 Keller, WA are fueled by slash left by a windstorm that
came through the area 2 years ago. The terrain is steep and rocky with limited access making it difficult for fire fighters to get to certain portions of the fire. Yesterday
and
today air resources are being utilized in the difficult portions of the fire while dozers and fire fighters continue to construct fire lines around the fires. Another fire located near Timm Brothers Ranch on Columbia River
Road approximately 20 miles North
of Nespelem, WA is
currently the largest fire is approximately 500 acres
fueled by grass and sage.
Air Resources are also being utilized at this location.
Today and tomorrow the weather is
expected to remain hot with low humidity with the possibility of thunderstorms
returning to the area.
MTFC is meeting with a Type 3 Team this afternoon. A
Type 2 Team is expected to arrive tomorrow bringing in additional resources.
