Oregon Interagency
Incident Management Team 4 is managing the Deception Complex which
encompasses approximately 96 fires on the Middle Fork Ranger District of
the Willamette National Forest. The Middle Fork Ranger District has had
five lighting storms starting fires since early July with the most
recent on August 10, 2014.
All
the campgrounds on the Middle Fork Ranger District are open including
the Waldo Lake campgrounds. The air quality in the Waldo Lake
campgrounds has been good all week.
Of the approximately 96 fires, most are less than 2 acres.
The status of these fires is: Active – 30 Contained – 14 Controlled – 11 Out – 27 Unable to locate – 14 Total acres: 300 Percent contained: 50%
The size of the four largest fires is:
Staley Fire at 214 acres
Davey Fire at 30 acres
Pool Fire at 22 acres
Green Lake (west of Waldo Lake) at 30 acres
Yesterday, one new fire of approximately 2 acres was near Mt. Fuji. The
fires most visible from Oakridge are in the Deception Creek drainage.
There are 2 fires that are in locations which firefighters cannot safely
access. The strategy is to keep those fires in check with helicopter
bucket drops while indirect fireline is constructed.
The
firefighters’ safety record is commendable to date. When driving on Hwy
58, please be aware of the fire vehicles and help firefighters keep the
safety record by driving with caution.
