8-16-14 Update:
Weather across the fire area is trending towards dryer conditions with a low possibility of showers this afternoon and evening. Fine fuels remain moist but heavy fuels will smolder. Fire will continue to creep in the litter and duff under the forest canopy. Lightning strikes from the storms of the past few days could have caused "sleepers," so smokes will be likely. Initial attack crews are available to respond to any new starts.
Structure Protection crews will be leaving the Duncan and Hansel Fires once they have removed hoses and other structure protection materials. Wildfire danger levels in those areas have dropped to the level that the crews are no longer required.
The Duncan Fire area remains hazardous for firefighters. Muddy conditions and erosion from the fire scar has caused occasional debris flow and rolling log hazards along the Entiat River Road. Progress is being made along the road portion of the fire with crews conducting mop-up, removing mud and debris from roads as well as hoses and other equipment from the fire line.
Firefighters were able to clear the obstruction in Pope Creek, and it is now flowing in its original channel.
Level 1 Evacuation Notices are in effect on Entiat River Road from milepost 18 to Brief. Level 2 Evacuation Notices were reduced to Level 1 on Entiat River Road from Brief to the end of County Road, on Tyee Road, Jenne Rd, and Jennie Ln. Entiat River Road remains closed at the bus turnaround near mile marker 21. The following campgrounds are also closed: Fox Creek, Lake Creek, Silver Falls, North Fork, Spruce Grove and Cottonwood.
Crews have made significant progress as safety allows on the eastern and northeastern portions of the Hansel Creek Fire. The fire remains west of Highway 97 and the portion of the fire near the highway remains secured.
Level 1 Evacuation Notices are in place on the stretch of Highway 97 from Ingalls Creek to Camas Creek Road, and in Valley Hi from Ingalls Ln. to Cottonwood Ln. Level 2 Evacuation Notices were reduced to Level 1 on Ingalls Creek Rd, Hansel Cr. Rd, and Pine Ridge Rd. This now means that all evacuation levels are Level 1 in the Hansel Fire area.
Firefighters have been doing excellent work completing the contingency lines around the Shoofly Fire.
The Alpine Fire is 100% contained and 50% mopped up. This fire will be unstaffed today, and crews will go back into the area on Sunday.
Containment efforts on the northwest corner of the Chiwaukum Creek Fire at McCue Ridge are nearing completion. Rehabilitation of the fireline, mop-up activities, and hose removal on the fire line are in progress. Level 1 Evacuation Orders are still in place from Coulter Rd to the first Forest Service gate, past which the road is closed.
ALL major roads in the area, including Highway 2 and Highway 97, are open. Businesses in surrounding communities are open and ready for business.
