8/15/2014 Devil's Elbow Fire Complex

Firefighters will be heavily engaged in securing existing lines and mop up procedures today at the 26,349 Devil’s Elbow Fire.  Heavy pockets of slash and stumps continue to smolder. Widespread rain is predicted for the area and high relative humidity and showers have slowed fire progression and activity in all areas. The fire continues to smolder in some areas where burnouts have been completed.
Highway 21 in the vicinity of the Devil’s Elbow Fire is now open to limited                  public use. The eight mile-long section previously closed on Highway 21 from Bridge Creek Road to Anderson Creek Road is now open during daytime from 6 am to 8 pm. and is closed at night.  Fire activity and heavy firefighting traffic continue to be present along the highway. Pilot cars are being used to escort vehicles. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution.


Only fire fighters and law enforcement personnel are allowed in the following areas:
  • The East San Poil Road north of Bridge Creek Road.
  • The Central Peak Area that is west of Highway 21, north of the Cache Creek Road, east of the Central Peak Road and south of the South Nanamkin Creek Road.
  • The Keno Mine and Thirtymile Area contained by Bridge Creek Road to the south; Upper Bridge Creek Road, Red Thunder Cutoff, and the Thirtymile Road to the east; and the Twentyfive Mile Road to the north.

Location: 10 miles north of Keller, Washington.

Approximately 41 homes are threatened; 7 homes are evacuated. Onenon-occupied home and two out-buildings burned.
