Oregon Team 1 responded to two new fires on Tuesday. The first was spotted by the team's air attack manager on the south side of Ollallie Butte. The second was reported near Powerline Road in the Sidwalter area. Warm Springs wildfire resources also responded to both fires and were involved in suppressing each of them.
Not a lot of smoke was visible on the Logging Unit Fires on Tuesday, but crews continued to diligently grid the area for hot spots. Looking in both the black, burned areas and the green unburned areas, crews using palm infrared sensors found spots within 150 feet of the firelines. The goal remains to eliminate all hot spots within 300 feet of the lines.
More smoke was evident on the Bear Butte 2 Fire on Tuesday than on the previous day, but all fire activity was interior and well away from established lines. The sprinkler system was still being installed by the end of daylight on Tuesday.
Dozers and water tenders are being released as work on the fires nears completion, and one Type 1 helicopter is being released to assist on other incidents. Miles of hose is being picked up and returned to the fire cache for cleaning, drying, and re-rolling.
Relative humidity dropped to 15% on Tuesday, with gusts of wind from the northwest up to 20 mph. Winds are expected to be slightly stronger today, but with a bit higher relative humidity and lower temperatures. Incident meteorologist Dan Byrd warned that weather variables are aligning to potentially produce dry lightning on Friday.
The NeNe Fire, staffed by Warm Springs Fire Management, has been lined and fewer crews are needed today to finish the work.
With a high number of large fires burning in the Pacific Northwest and other parts of the country, firefighting resources are stretched thin. This may result in fires growing larger and causing more damage. Carelessness with fire endangers all of us. Please be careful with fire and report those who are not.
