FIRE UPDATE SEPTEMBER 13, 2018

Klondike Fire
Southern Area Red Team
Mike Dueitt, Incident Commander

Overview
Yesterday, moderate fire activity continued. Because of drier high-level winds, the fire activity was more active on the highest ridge tops.

In the Indigo Creek drainage near Silver Peak, helicopter bucket drops will be used today to help control fire spread. Crews will continue mop up between Game Lake and Saddle Mountain. When conditions allow, crews will begin tactical firing operations along the 150 Road down toward Indigo Creek and East along the 2308 Road toward Bear Camp Road. At the mine in the Little Silver Creek, hose lays and structure protection are in place should the fire advance onto private land.

Klondike Fire East Zone and Taylor Creek Fire
Fire-weakened trees continue to send debris onto roads. Crews are working to mitigate this hazard to provide safe entry when the roads are again open to the public. Recovery of timber removed during the suppression effort is also ongoing. Suppression repair continues on containment lines on the Taylor Creek Fire. This includes repairing roads and culverts, and refurbishing dozer lines and hand lines to prevent erosion. Pockets of unburned fuel in the interior will continue to produce smoke until substantial rainfall is received. Firefighters will continue to patrol the perimeter and address hotspots.

Road Closures
Bear Camp Road, from the intersection with the Merlin-Galice Road (Josephine County Road #2400 and #2401) west to the intersection with Forest Service Road 33, will remain open for the Agness and Galice residents, permit holders, and lodges until further notice. The Weather forecast indicates this will remain in effect for several days; however, unexpected fire behavior could cause a complete closing to all non-fire traffic at any time.  We really appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation.  If there is unexpected fire behavior or conditions change allowing tactical firing to begin, the road will be closed to all non-fire traffic until it is safe for the public.

Road 3313 in the Rogue River Siskiyou National Forest is also closed from the junction at Road 33 to the junction at Road 3680.

Evacuation Level
The evacuation level in the Agness Zone is 2 – Be Set
Firing operations are not expected to change the evacuation level for Agness.
