9/7/2018 Crescent Mountain, McLeod & Holman Fire Update

CRESCENT MOUNTAIN FIRE
Progress made in Mission Peak area
September 7, 2018

Crescent Mountain Fire: 49,277 acres; 37 percent contained
   Personnel: 929
   Point of Origin: Approximately 21 miles west of Twisp

   Cause: Lightning

McLeod Fire: 22,511 acres; 35 percent contained
   Personnel: 461
   Point of Origin: Approximately eight miles north of Mazama
   Start Date: August 11, 2018
   Cause: Lightning

Holman Fire: 300 acres, no containment
   Point of Origin: Holman Peak
   Start Date: August 17, 2018
   Cause: Unknown
Crescent Mountain Fire: Fire resources continued efforts in the Mission Peak area, including firing operations conducted by hot shot crews. The fire made a run towards Hoodoo Peak yesterday afternoon, and is not a threat at this time. Firefighters made progress on mop-up, patrol, and chipping around the northeast perimeter of the fire in the Twisp River area. Helitack crews and smokejumpers worked on hot spots detected along the fire edge near Slate Dip. Aircraft provided support to both fire suppression efforts and firing operations.

McLeod Fire: Fire activity increased yesterday afternoon with advancement to the bottom of Sunshine Creek towards Lost River. Other efforts on the west side of the fire have been successful with handline development and air resource assistance. Crews continue to prepare primary line and work actively in the Sweet Grass Butte area. Suppression repair efforts also continue on the east side of the fire.

Holman Fire: Fire activity is being monitored. The Harts Pass road is open through several trails in the area remain closed. The Pacific Crest Trail is closed from the North Traihead to the intersection of the Rock Creek Trail (#473). Hikers can take the Middle Fork Trail (#478) up to the Rock Creek Trail to get back to the Pacific Crest Trail.

Evacuations: Crescent Mountain Fire: A Level 3 (GO now) evacuation is in effect for all persons living west of the Little Bridge Creek intersection in the Twisp River Valley. A Level 2 (get SET) evacuation is in effect for persons living west of Newby Creek Road to Little Bridge Creek Road,Smith Canyon Road, and Libby Creek Road west of Smith Canyon Road. An alert remains in the Poorman Creek area. The Red Cross has a shelter available at the Methow Valley Community Center in Twisp. No evacuations are in effect for the McLeod or Holman Fires.
Closures: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest and North Cascades National Park have issued trail and area closures orders in the vicinity of all three fires. Maps and information on the closures can be found on InciWeb. Temporary flight restriction information is available at theFederal Aviation Administration’s website.
Smoke/Weather: Average maximum temperature will be around 77 degrees with humidity recovery around 40-50%. A slight chance of thunderstorms is expected around noon today through the evening. A cold frontal passage is expected to pass through the area around 9:00 p.m.and will be present through the night.
