Northwest Activity Summary

Over the week widespread precipitation coverage occurred, with all areas receiving trace to wetting rains. Flash flood warnings in Washington along the coastal areas were issued and those areas received heavy wetting rains. Mid-week scattered lightning occurred west of the Cascades. Snotel stations recorded increases in snow in all mountain ranges. Prescribed burning continued as conditions allowed. Initial attack activity was light.

Northwest Fire Weather Summary

Much of the Oregon and western Washington will experience wet weather over the weekend. Much less potential for rain or snow is likely for eastern Washington. Precipitation of various amounts will occur over affected regions mainly on Friday and Saturday. Drying is likely beginning late Sunday and lasting into next week as the jet stream retreats southward into California. Cooler temperatures will arrive with the drying pattern next week as winds switch to the northeast or east, especially east of the Cascades.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary

With substantial precipitation coming to Oregon and western Washington, the potential for new significant fires will remain minimal across the region through the weekend. Next week, the cooling and drying pattern will result in elevation of ERC and BI values mainly in rangelands east of the Cascades. Units conducting prescribed fires in wind prone areas should review spot forecasts carefully for potential gusty northeast to east winds.
