Northwest Activity Summary

Over the week, widespread precipitation fell over the region as widespread storms introduced high winds along the coast. Wetting to heavy rains over most of the region occurred with the exception of light traces in Southeastern Oregon.   Mid-week some lightning occurred west of the Cascades and primarily in the Olympic Peninsula accompanied by heavy rains.  A tornado touched down in Port Orchard, WA. Prescribed burning continued as conditions allowed with heavy fuels. Initial attack activity was light.

Northwest Fire Weather Summary

After some relief from rain today into Saturday, the active weather pattern will continue through next week as a series of storms traverses the region. The systems will bring rain and mountain snow; some lower areas east of the Cascades could also see a white Christmas. Winds will pick up at times, especially along the coast and in the east side basins. Consult NWS wind advisories for location and timing details.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary

Continued precipitation coming to the region will keep the potential for new significant fires low. Gusty winds could elevate the risk for prescribed fire escapes at times, so any units conducting burns should request and carefully review spot forecasts.
