Widespread lightning occurred in Southeastern and Southcentral Oregon with scattered lightning in the Northcentral and Baker City areas. Precipitation was widespread in these areas. Light initial attack in Oregon and Washington. The National Preparedness Level increased to PL2.

Northwest Fire Weather Summary

A cooling trend will begin on Thursday as more stable air flows in from the Pacific. This will be accompanied by increasing westerly general winds from the Cascade crest eastward in the lower elevation basins of Eastern Oregon and Washington and the Columbia River Gorge. Wet thunderstorms are likely again on Thursday but closer to the Idaho border as the westerly flow pattern shifts the moisture and instability to the east. Overall, a cooling trend will affect most of the area except Southwest Oregon for the next 5 to 7 days bringing a gradual reduction in fire danger indices and lightning potential.

Northwest Fire Potential Summary

Increasing westerly winds today over the basins just east of the Cascades and in the Columbia River Gorge will boost the threat of human-caused human-caused fires in light fuels. Less wind for Friday and Saturday.
