A community meeting will be held tonight to update residents about fire activity.
Location: Red Barn,Winthrop Time: 4p.m. Rising Eagle Fire, (Twisp/Winthrop)

Yesterday, a new start was reported west of Highway 20, about 1/2 mile south of Twin Lakes Road in
Twisp. The Fire Protection District 6 and Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
coordinated the initial attack of the fire with the support of Carlton Complex air and ground resources.
Many Air resources were deployed on the quick moving fire which resulted in some significant saves
of residences. Damage assessment will be completed today. Carlton Complex fire resources continued
to support fire suppression activities throughout the night. While the Incident Command Post was
within the Level 3 Evacuation Zone, fire management staff were prepared to shelter in place had it
been necessary.

North Zone (Winthrop)
Yesterday, the north portion of Carlton Complex was very active as the fire spread north across
Pearrygin Creek. Pearrygin Lake State Park was evacuated and closed. Residents east of Chewuch
Creek and roads around Pearrygin Lake were placed under Level 2 evacuation notice. Crews have
confined the fire on Foggy Dew ridge to south of Hunter Creek in the Upper Gold Creek area.
Securing contingency line and extinguishing pockets of fuel within the fire perimeter continues. Fire
crews are strengthening contingency lines and checking and delaying fire spread north of Highway 20.

East Zone
Yesterday, good progress on containment continued in the East Zone. A few pockets of unburned fuel
were identified and extinguished approximately 3 miles of South Summit on Highway 20. Today,
crews will secure and reinforce containment lines and extinguish any new pockets of unburned fuel.
East of South Summit, no new fires within the perimeter were found in the predominately grassy fuel
and the area is in monitor/patrol status.

South Zone
The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team assumed command of the South Zone August 2,
2014. Yesterday, fire crews monitored and patrolled the fire line. Two pockets of burning fuel were
identified within the fire perimeter and extinguished. Fire crews will patrol and monitor the fire today
and extinguish any interior smoking pockets.

American Red Cross Evacuation Centers
The American Red Cross has opened two evacuation centers: the Methow Valley Community Center,
201 S. Methow Valley Highway, in Twisp, and the Mazama Community Church, 18202 Highway 20,
in Mazama, due to Level 2 evacuations called in the Winthrop and Level 3 in Sun Mountain areas.
